It's worth reading what LeGuin has to say about the Earthsea miniseries. There was a long article from her on the subject (most memorable in how often she states fears--proven justified, apparently--that they're going to make Ged into a "honky").

Everyone has different reactions to all the books, and then different reactions again depending on what age they are. When I was younger, I hated the third book; I like it very much now. Though Tehanu is probably my favorite.
