Heh, the denki-furo? The very first time I went to an onsen, I went to this little hole-in-the-wall place that had three separate pools -- hot, medium-hot denki-furo, and cold. Now, the friend I went with had also never been to an onsen before, and so we were both attempting to act as casual as possible...and succeeded fairly well, until the point where she stepped into the denki-furo and got this startled look on her face. Being silly gaijin, we neither of us had read the sign over the pool that proudly displayed the kanji for 'ELECTRICITY' and 'BATH', even though we could have figured it out for ourselves.

I've heard it's supposed to be good for rheumatism, though. Which might explain why the only other women in there were well over the age of 65.
