X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I really liked the Wolverine movie. I love that they managed to make a coherent, mostly true to the comics origin story for just about everybody who appeared. There are so many versions of everything for most of these characters that it was nice to see it all boiled down to something simple that made sense and worked. Also, I think streamlining Wolverine's past actually helps his character since the more you try to elaborate, say, what he was doing during the 1920s, the more you end up warping his character (most of the time). I loved that Hugh Jackman didn't seem to wear a shirt for half the movie. I loved that there was lots of mayhem and that the first half of it felt like watching a Highlander flashback *L* I loved seeing a lot of mutants you only see in flashbacks or as villains or victims in their early years.

Things I didn't like: Some of the dialogue was awfully cliché, especially Sabertooth's, and the random, Gambit stepping in when Logan was going to kill Sabertooth scene. Why? (well, other than the plot says Victor can't die:P) I'm not sure why they added in Scott, but eh, he was useful.

I liked seeing Wade while he was handsome, though... what exactly are his powers at that point? I like to think that since his first memories in the comic are of coming out of a pool of nuclear waste that he'll be reforming in that nuclear planet, all better and his wisecracking self in the future. I'm also glad they nailed down Sabertooth's relationship to Wolverine. God, did the waffling about that annoy me in the comics. Early Blob was quite interesting actually. Poor Logan finally paid for his signature term, bub. Hehe. Actually, they did a fairly decent job of remembering to add in humour to what could have been a grim story. Is it weird that I miss Gambit's accent? I like the way they did his powers, especially the staff bit since that was much more like they were in the Gambit comic.

I wonder if they only decided at the last minute to go with the Sabertooth as Logan's half brother storyline because they actually only mention their relationship twice in the whole movie. I'm left wondering if the rest of that early black ops team were aware of it too since surely someone would say 'your brother' instead of 'Victor'.

Anyway, I'm pretty satisfied. Lots of things blew up or were destroyed. There were historical scenes. Wolverine sliced things, and looked hot while doing it (even if his hair was sometimes really wild). Even the lovey scenes were kept mercifully short. All in all, just what I wanted from the movie.
