job, bujinkan, prince of persia
I can't really say much about my job due to privacy laws, so forgive me for the lack of hospital stories. I'm working most weekends this summer in an evening shift, so my social life would be non-existent if I wanted to have one *L* In whiny news, I really wish more people who know me would remember that I worked a full time job for 1 1/2 years in Japan. I know I look young, but this really isn't my first job. I promise.
Buyu training last night was really difficult, but I appreciated that we were training at a level where I felt like I was learning something. The basic set up was how to defend yourself while sitting in that not!Indian style when you're attacked by an opponent with a short sword. A lot of the defences involved getting perilously close to the sword, so it was hard to fight against your natural urge to get the fuck away from the sharp blade. (I think you feel more vulnerable when you're being attacked by a standing person while you're sitting too.) Jack was right there the entire time so I got a lot of critique and the inevitable moment where I had to teach the class. My partner was someone who I don't like training with much (he doesn't like training with me either), but he was only really annoying at one point and other than that seemed rather lost by the whole thing. I did my best to help him, but since it was hard, I required a lot of thought just to internalize what was being taught so I wasn't always up to helping him since I was trying to figure it out myself.
We saw Prince of Persia on Tuesday, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty good. Not perfect by a long shot (I took points away for them killing the black man, but had to give half back since he was alive and well at the end due to the ending...) That actress' voice really grates on me and she's a mediocre actor, but everyone else was really good. I was pleased that Kingsley didn't ham it up as the villain, and the brothers/princes were adorable. Also, I sort of appreciate (thinly veiled allusion that it was) an action movie advocating not fighting and that a great man would stop a battle before it began. That, and the fact that I genuinely liked most of the characters, meant that I didn't mind the giant rewind to a happy ending. Also, watching endless sword fights and parkour is very relaxing for me. I was even able to ignore the historical inaccuracy by declaring it a giant AU in my brain. So, in general, good stuff.

[envy] I don't look young and I've never had a proper job. Sure I've done contract and commission work but never a 9 to 5. you'd be amazed how old you can get with out a proper job lol.

I've always wished I was in good enough condition to try parkour, that and I'd practically have to be younger as aside from a few groups miles away from me the only people training in it are loose collections of teens. Same with gymnastics, aside from needing far better condition than I've got if you rule out ''recreational' gymnastic classes the only classes / clubs are populated by teens and kids, mostly girls. Even if I was in shape for it I'd spend all lesson getting the evil eye from parents watching their kids.
