I really enjoyed today's class of Shukokai karate, and I didn't expect to. I was impressed by how friendly they were, how they welcomed me not as a beginner but as someone with experience, and how they were willing to tailor the class to very different wants and needs. The class had a bit more exercise then I like in your average martial arts class but other than that, there was a lot of the training I want and need and lots of friendly people with no strict rules. I think I'm in love. Will definately going back, though I think I'll still check out Aikido and Kendo tomorrow on the off chance they'll be better (which hopefully they won't be since I'm quite content with what I've found). Only trouble is I need to go buy a blackbelt now. It's either that or have it shipped here from NJ, which seems kinda silly. Only don't know where the martial arts/sports stores are in Edinburgh:( Gotta find one soon though. Anybody have an idea?

In my school we went with the tradition/superstition that the belt you learn a skill with sorta absorbs some of the lesson, so the belt itself carries a bit of your skill and experience. I know it's silly, but I'm not above such things. I'd say get your old belt shipped to you. ;)

But if that doesn't work for some reason, you could always go to Century Martial Arts (or some other supplier with an online store) and order a new one.

The only superstition I support is that the older a person's blackbelt looks, the better trained they are. My own blackbelt at home is only a year old since all though I've had the belt for longer, the two belts I bought before were stolen by the belt fairy (I seriously have no idea where they went, but I'd go back to university, then come home and they'd be gone.). I hate breaking in new belts so it will be a pain, but I'm pretty sure buying one would be cheaper than shipping it here. Who knows though.

I got burned by a martial arts store online who never sent me my order but took my money anyway. I trust things people recommend to me, but i'm not sure if they ship to the UK. Thanks though:)

My mum's said she'll ship it to me, so no worries now:)
