A question

Does anyone know if I can animate gifs by simply using Photoshop 5.0? And if not, what's a good program to download to do so?

I'm pretty sure you can't do animations with PS 5.0. I suggest going online to Jasc Software (http://www.jasc.com) and downloading animation shop. You can get a free thirty day trial through them and after the thirty days is up can just turn the clock on your computer back to use it. (At least, that's what I've been told, I've not tried that myself as I ended up getting it with another program) Regardless it's a great program and a heck of a lot of fun to play with.

I'm not in my normal office, and I can't install at-will here...which leads me to being unsure as to whether IrfanView can create animated gifs or not and is also responsible for this rather lengthy and unwieldy sentence.

But you could try IrfanView (a lurvely graphics program and more). It's freeware. Grab the plug-ins for it, too. It rocks.

I know Fireworks allows for animated gifs, but I have no idea about Photoshop.

Oh, one last thing...you could also do a search for animated gifs at Download.com.

You can't do animations with Photoshop, you do them with Imageready. :) I've only used 6.0 and 7.0 so I'm not sure whether version five has it. As others said, you can download Animation Shop but I'm not sure if Irfanview can do animation - I thought not, since I've used it before. There's also gifbuilder... a few searches should turn up something.
