Poor you. You're really not having the best of times. But Florence is gorgeous, and I think you'll love it. They have a really nice archaological museum as well. Great collection of Greek pottery and Etruscan jewellery and funerary statuary. They even have nice little section on ancient Egypt. Well worth a look.
The Uffizi is the must see, though. All the art, it's just superb. I'd advise you to start queuing up early in the morning - and by early, I mean at least 8am, if you want to get in any time before midday. The queues can be rather long :/ Stunning building though.
The Accademia, where they keep the David, really isn't worth it, especially since there is a life size replica of the statue in its original position in the Piazza outside the Uffizzi.
Oh, and the Pitti Palace on the far side of the river if you are at all interested in the history of jewellery or costumes. *dribbles slightly at memory*
