That sucks about having to sit in the lobby but at least you got a refund. The guy helping me find an apartment here was like, "Do you really need a smoke free apartment? What if they just clean it?" I had to point out that even a 'cleaned' smoking room or living in a building full of smokers, can kill me. He got back to me yesterday that he found a local center who offers one room apartments for students and researchers and the whole building is smoke free. I'll see it on Tuesday and see if that's actually true...
I have a lot of trouble here in Japan to be honest since people often smoke while eating or smoke while drinking. I expect I'm going to have to spend a lot of time apologizing for my deadly illness. It's such a pain considering I barely even notice my asthma in the US since I only get triggered by smoke, pollution and extremely cold weather, all of which are easily avoidable in the US.
