So didn't do too much today. Visited the Vatican museum, which was huge and very crowded, though it started to thin out near the end. It was lovely inside, with tons of Roman statues, famous paintings, egyptian, assyrian and etruscan art and frescoes like in the sistine chapel and the raphael rooms.

I enjoyed the Raphael rooms, particuarly the Constantine room, which wasn't painted by Raphael (since he was dead at the time) but at least designed by him and the egpytian museum was nice if a bit small. The etruscan museum was closed by the time we got to it (I wish they told you things like that) but I don't really mind that much. Of all the famous paintings, Raphael's Transfiguration was the most impressive with a truly vibrant life to it. The sistine chapel was pretty but not as impressive as I thought it would be (they were also being nazis about people taking photos which as usual, is considered rather silly by me. It's not like anyone was stupid enough to use flash after all). The Last Judgement on the altar part of the chapel was more impressive than the cieling by far. By this point, we were pretty hungry, since it was getting on into the afternoon and there was little left to see, so we hit a nearby pizza place which was lovely and surprisingly cheap, then started walking back to our hotel. A stop for a gelati (pistachio and bannana... who would have thought that pistachio would be my favourite gelati flavour?) and some shopping then we caught the taxi back to our hotel to spend the evening relaxing. Tomorrow we'll hit the capitoline museum so I can see my statue and then we're done with rome. A day in venice, milan and paris then I can go home.
