Fasted today for Yom Kippur. I thought it would be a bit harder, but as anyone who's ever spent a few hours with me knows, I'm always hungry so feeling hungry like that for a 24 hour period really wasn't that much of a hardship. Couldn't work, so just read fic and books and wandered about lost in my own thoughts. This would have been easier if my mum hadn't been going crazy from lack of food and low blood sugar, and bugging me *sigh*

Dad's car keeps acting up because of the rain. It stalled on me at least 15 times tonight. That led us to Outback for dinner since the restaurant we chose was packed and I was afraid to drive too far. Of course, afterwards there was the usual 45 minute drive home which I had to take an alternate route to do because I was afraid of stalling on the parkway. Tomorrow, I have to get up relatively early to sign up for a temp agency because it's stupid to stay here doing nothing while I wait to hear back from job people. I really wish people could make decisions faster.

Writing wise, I've been thinking a lot about the difference between scenes that are necessary, and scenes that just add colour. I remember I used to strip down plots as much as possible and only have scenes that were necessary. This made my writing very streamlined with very little description. Nowadays, I tend to write whatever scenes I feel like, even if they're not related to the plot because they still build character which is just as important as the plot. Which led me to think of Rowling and all the miscellaneous data she's been putting in her books, especially the last two. She only has this medium to convey all the myriads of data all her fans want from her, though what she doesn't seem to realize is that she could easily go Tolkien's route and put the background in another book, or hell, just throw it up online for everyone. And all this comes back to me thinking of Silver and Gold and wondering which scenes with Kakashi are necessary and which are just me playing around with the characters. The scene I wrote yesterday didn't move the plot forward, but it did tell you a lot about Kakashi at six. Does this make it worth keeping in the story? Je ne sais pas.
