I haven't really been in the mood to update these last few days. I've been lounging around, enjoying the peace to what extent I can.

On Monday, I went to see Memoirs of a Geisha with my mum. I was surprised how close the movie stayed to the book with only a few understandable smushes of events to cover the time jumps. The cinematography was excellent even if it did suffer from the "let's show everyone every pretty spot in 'insert country here'" syndrome. Very nice acting and I liked the casting for almost everybody.

I met up with [livejournal.com profile] havenward on Wendsday for lunch (it both amuses and appalls me that I have several hours worth of conversational material from all my horrible vacation stories which never fail to entertain people). I then kidnapped her for an old fashioned sleepover complete with ice cream and looking at pictures of bishounnen, and much One Piece watching. With a bit of judicious skipping and summarizing, I managed to get us up to the middle of the Sanji arc *g* We also devoured all the AMVs on my comp *L*

In the morning (okay, afternoon), we watched the first dvd of Saiyuki Reload. I had been vaguely aware that the production quality was better than the first series, but comparing the two has no point since Saiyuki Reload comes up tops on every angle. The only thing that hasn't changed is they still have the cheesy game music sometimes (though other music was fine and the opening and ending were great). The quality of the art was stunning. So much so that we both had a very hard time paying attention to the subtitles whenever the show was focusing on one of the guys, especially Sanzo and Kougaji. Kougaji deserves his own mention btw in that he looked utterly gorgeous in reload. (He's also stolen Ichigo's clothing... or Ichigo stole his *L*) We couldn't get enough of Sanzo and couldn't figure out why until we finally realized it's because they put a huge amount of detail into his hair. He looks like Cloud *L* It's lovely seeing Gojyo's hair red too. Plotwise, it sort of skipped around mixing filler with actual plot from the manga. Both were pretty bearable (which is certainly not what I can say for the original series). Also, for some reason all the random attacking youkai are all very hot looking. It's distracting *L* Adored the episode with them meeting their doubles the best I think. I look forward to when my second dvd arrives (since I have the 3rd and 4th waiting...).

I am now off to [livejournal.com profile] rinzei's to get together with [livejournal.com profile] sylk and [livejournal.com profile] havenward and celebrate new year's a day in advance. Lucky for all of you, I will probably not be around a computer long enough to do a drunken post;)
