Accompanied some of the other teachers to Fukuoka yesterday to see off the teacher I'm replacing. It's a bit of a long drive and we actually switch islands (Fukuoka is on Kyuushu, while we live on the main island, Honshu), but it was a fun trip nonetheless. After parking at the airport we made our way into the city and did some shopping. The clothes shopping was pretty boring for me, especially since there isn't a chance in hell of anything Japanese fitting me (my bust precludes it), but I managed to wander off several times and look at other things that interested me. I'm looking for a good keychain for my keys but have yet to find any. It also still amazes me how popular DBZ still is. I guess they show it in reruns or something.

We then headed off to Canal City, which is this ridiculously huge shopping centre - five major floors and covering three huge buildings. It was a pretty cool place to wander. We first had dinner at a buffet that was nomily Italian, but also had a mix of many other things. Then we all split up for awhile for them to clothes shop and me to explore. I found the vending machines with anime figures, but didn't get anything interesting *pout* I also discovered where to find a majority of American/British food I might enjoy and oddly enough, a lot of it was about the same price as it would be in it's respective country. I guess I know where to go if I'm ever craving Tim Tams and the like. Then I wandered and found an exotic african/indian/chinese ethnic whatever store where I picked up a very pretty Indian style cloth that I've pined up on my wall to add even more colour to the room. I then found the arcade and spent my time trying to use various claw machines to get anime stuff. Their slight design difference from American ones meant I didn't win anything this time around, though I intend to try again at some point *laughes evilly* We met up again and watched a little light show in the water/canal that runs around the bottom of the building, then did a bit more browsing before heading back to the train station and saying out goodbyes. It was a long drive back and we did a lot of walking, so I slept like the dead.
