Code Geass Seasons 1 & 2

I made the mistake of watching the last 16 or so episodes of the first season of Code Geass. I say mistake because while it was possible to watch those first ten episodes without being compelled to watch more, the more you watch, the more addicted you get. It's a truly fascinating series. I know it's so popular because it has a bit of everything for everyone (mecha fights, cute love stories, tragic love stories, crazy school festival stories, tactical matches, a hero with brains and heart (though you'd have to debate long and hard to decide who the hero is), even nude women for those more interested in such things *L*). Of course, once I finished season 1, I was compelled to rewatch the first part of season 2 since I had missed a lot by watching that first, and then I couldn't stop watching. I tried - I went to sleep after episode 13 thinking it was a good stopping point, but my mind was buzzing so much with thoughts about the show that I couldn't get to sleep and when I did, I woke up three hours later with my brain still feverishly going through potential scenarios (and this is with me knowing how it ends!). I finished it all today, and now I'm sitting here all teary eyed trying to come up with a coherent response to the whole thing.

I want to read lots of AUs diverging from different points in the series (any fic recs?) which shouldn't be all that hard since they're writing weird, official AU's in Japan right now. The weirdest has got to be Code Geass: Tales of an Alternate Shogunate which is set during the bakumatsu. It has Lelouch as the commander of the Shinsengumi! God, that's gotta be weird. I have to read it *L*

The only problem with this series? I really want some pizza now *L*

writing, Merlin, Legend of the Seeker, Robin Hood

Let's see, other than my Code Geass marathon, what else has been happening? I managed to get promises of three recommendation letters (finally) so that's all settled (thank god). I hate asking for recommendation letters so yeah. My passport has also been sent off for renewal so I suppose I'll see it again in three months (wah!). Many more query letters have been sent though I still have several more to send before I finish what I'm calling the 'first round' of querying. I want to start writing my next book but I'm undecided about what I should be working on since I have about four different books I could focus on, two of which have parts written of them, plus there are a few short stories I should also finish and try to get published in magazines. It's getting to be a bad habit of mine to start writing short, original stories and not finish them. You'd think fanfic would have given me enough practice in one-shots, but apparently not.

I have been watching quite a few series. BBC's Merlin should probably annoy me more than it does. The plots are simplistic and Merlin is an idiot, but at least the show and most of the characters know Merlin is an idiot as well, and eventually he will grow up, though I doubt his special effects will ever get any better. I kinda like some of their reinterpretations of Arthurian legend and I look forward to reading the fic once the first season ends (also, having Arthur say to Merlin, "There's something about you Merlin." while staring at him is just asking for the slashers to pounce *L*) I've been trying to keep my historical bitching about the whole thing to a minimum.

Legend of the Seeker isn't half bad, though when I heard it was being adapted into a show, I was wondering how they were going to manage. I mean, the main plot is easily adaptable, but sanitizing the rest for television seemed a bit of a struggle. I've been rereading the first book (only the first three are worth it, in case you were wondering) of the Sword of Truth series and it turns out I'd actually forgotten a lot of the gore so they're sanitizing it even more than I imagined. That being said, I think it's not a bad series, even if I keep having massive flashbacks to every episode of Hercules and Xena I ever watched (not to mention LOTRs). The guy they cast as Richard isn't as bulky as I'd imagined but his actings passable. Zedd is great, as is Kahlan (I like that they gave her a few more fighting skills.) Now that I'm rereading the books, I think they missed a few opportunities by not following the beginning plot of the book more closely, but oh well. I'm sure they'll work everything in (hopefully). I've always wanted to see the end of the first book filmed, so I'm looking forward to the end of the season.

We tried to watch BBC series Robin Hood last night, but Kirk and I fell over laughing at how over the top it was, and even my Dad wouldn't agree to watch a second ep. I think the only thing that might make me watch more is that Richard Armitage is very handsome and can act even if his outfit of faux black leather is laughingly bad.

I need to buckle down and study for the GREs this next week, and I'll finally find out my grades from Leeds on Friday. Yay!

My space bar key is squeaky now. This is annoying.
