I'm a little sore today from buyu training, not because it was anything more taxing than usual, but because I haven't done any exercise since class two weds ago due to the cold. Usually when I can't get to training, I at least do exercise at home and take 2-3 mile walks, but with the sinus infection dragging me down, I've only had the wherewithal to do a few sit ups here and there. Oddly, the break from exercise, though it has made me sore today, has also somehow given me a boost to my flexibility. Generally, when my legs are held wide and I'm sitting down, I can bring my forehead to the ground for a few seconds, but then have to let up cause it hurts. Today, I could do this, and held it there easily for several seconds. Go figure. Humidity was very high today so I was dripping with sweat the whole time. I was nauseous from doing the rolls at the beginning of class, probably from the antibiotics, but at least I only coughed after class was over. I'm down to one major hacking fit a day, so yay. I trained with a guy, P., who I generally dislike training with since he tends to get stubborn and fight you. Today, either because of the heat or because he's actually growing up, he was very tolerable and willing to admit that he didn't know what he was doing and ask for help. I was impressed. He did almost break my neck, but I got him to stop quickly and explained why I was so freaked out by what he'd been trying to do. No harm done.
My birthday yesterday went very well. My whole family and I went to this massive Japanese buffet in Freehold with a huge sushi selection. A decent sushi buffet for $17 a person is nothing to sneeze at. I stuffed myself full of all the weird American rolls which I've never bothered to try before, being more partial to the more traditional Japanese style sushi. The green tea opened up my sinuses for a while too. After thoroughly stuffing ourselves, we headed back to my mothers where we watched the latest White Collar before having pieces of my decadent tiramisu cake. The only reason I ate dinner later that night was because I needed something solid in me so the antibiotics didn't make me nauseous. I wasn't even hungry since I'd had so much food before. Present wise, I didn't ask for much. I got the entire Granada Sherlock Holmes series on dvd, an Ankh Morpork City Watch bag, a Star Trek t-shirt, and a set of professional watercolour pencils. We settled in and watched the final Sherlock episode (that's some ending...), and then I spent the time after midnight playing Civ. 4 over the internet with Kirk in an attempt to finish our ridiculously long Civ. 4 game. All in all, an excellent birthday.
