I made it to Buyu for the first time in ages tonight. Jack asked me what I'd been up to. When I gave him the whole list and he expressed his surprise at what a variety of people Bujijkan attracts. I wasn't sure if I should be insulted or not *L* I learnt a move called 'killing the child' today, which is called that because it's really painful, but it's surprisingly easy to do, so I'm not going to describe it here since it should not be spread around... Training was fighting from seizan (ie, sitting on your heels) or as Jack renamed it, samurai bar fighting *g* It was a lot of different things you could do once the person tried to grab you. He demonstrated one on me that has left my wrist aching even now. Probably the most important thing I learnt was that if you're trying to get someone to let go of your gi and it's moving around too much, then the key is not to stabilize their hand, but to stabilize the gi beneath their hand then jerk it in the weakest direction. They can't hold on and then you can do the technique. Jack had a lot of fun going into increasingly more complex, nasty take downs by the end of the night (I recall hearing him say that one move would drive the ribs into the lungs...). So some of our final techniques were taking the person down so they're sitting or lying against your front with their arms immobilized or out of play, and then you can pick your method for strangling them or tormenting them with annoying pressure points on the face, as I chose *eg*
It was good training and I'm very sad that my phd aps are going to keep me from training for quite awhile. So it goes.
