Well, I got yelled at twice in training today, and praised once, which about balances out in my mind since praise is rare from Jack while scolding is frequent. What really shocked me was when I asked Jack after class if he knew of anyone training in Wisconsin, preferably near Madison, and he gave me a guy to contact there and proceeded to casually tell me that I was better than anyone he could think of who was training in Wisconsin and really should be teaching them, but they're all guys so I wouldn't get away with it. I played it cool, but was inwardly marvelling at the surprisingly high opinion Jack has of me (or possibly the very low opinion he has of everyone training in Wisconsin *L*).

Training started off rather slow with close fighting, ie, meeting an attack at such a close range that you take all their space even though you're like, inches away from them. Not my favourite style of fighting to tell the truth because a mistake is much more likely to get you injured, but even though most of the attacks started that way, we did get a good variety of counters to such things so eh. My partner was Mi. again (there were only 10 people total in the entire class today... so everyone else either thought Jack wouldn't be there or they all just decided to skip on the same day. The usual number is 15-20, though it goes down severely in classes where people know Jack won't be there cause some people think it's only worth learning from Jack which is a) stupid and b) stupid (do they think Jack doesn't notice people who do this?)) and he was a little more frustrated than on Monday by my flexibility so he tended to try to break my wrist rather than just figure out the way to go to do the throws which was a shame. Hopefully, my wrist won't hurt so much tomorrow. Weapon was sword and all the techniques were deceptively simple but mostly insane looking since they involved leaning into an attack to get there before the sword did (you focus on the hands, not on the sword. If you look at the sword, you get cut. Someday I may get used to someone attacking me with a sword and me having to jump towards them rather than run away.). Jack did the last technique to me and it involved such delicate, restrained movements I despaired of ever imitating them. I really need to work on my softness.

Had to get a new phone today because my phone likes to restart whenever I try to access the internet. I thought they'd try to repair it but they were like, well, you're being upgraded in a few months, how about we give you a new phone in the same model and you pay a couple dollars more a month for those few months instead of us repairing your admittedly crappy phone? (They didn't actually say it was a crappy phone but didn't disagree when I called it that several times and were unable to tell me a way to keep it from going online in my pocket and draining my battery. They did explain how to get photos off of it though.)

Now I'm off to spend the rest of the evening playing civ 4. Ja ne!
