deralte: (stardust expect me when you see me)

So, I went out for ramen on Tuesday night. I had to eat fast because it was a smoking restaurant, but other than that it was delicious and had a proper naruto in it with gyoza on the side.

Weds morning I was all set to head out to the Kashihara Archaeological Museum with the intention of visiting there in the morning, then hitting Asuka (about 15 min further down the rail line) after I was done. However, five minutes before I left I got an email response from the person I've been in contact with at Kashihara telling me to 'stop on by'. I doubt he expected me to show up an hour later, but that's what happened *L* I got to the museum and he was in a meeting so I explored the museum instead. I really liked their displays on the Yayoi and Kofun period - probably because they had a lot of artifacts I'd never seen before plus an adorable diaorama based on drawings on pottery. Most of the way through the museum my contact found me, then it was time for a round of whirlwind introductions, being treated to a lunch of curry and being told that getting access to the artifacts was unlikely. *sigh* Still, they set me up with a desk at the nearby research institute and gave me full access to the library and a photocopier. As a result, I'm starting to feel a bit guilty about how many trees are dying for my research, but I don't have any other options considering these books and site reports aren't available in the US (not even by interlibrary loan). Reading through the sources is going to take a long time so instead I've been getting other work done like finishing my paper and presentation for the conference next week. I've been going home around 5pm each day, though today I came in early to introduce myself in Japanese at their weekly meeting (I actually find self introductions to large groups of people terrifying so I have no idea why I work in a country where they're necessary).

I made the mistake of discovering the location of Animate in Nara on Thursday (it's on the way to Kintetsu Nara station going from JR station to any who care). I'm feeling really out of touch anime wise because there was a ton of merchandise from things I've never heard of. (Are there new ninja and shinsengumi shows? Why haven't I heard of them?!) The new doujinshi were almost all Free! or Attack on Titan which is annoying because Attack on Titan isn't my cup of tea and I don't ship anyone in Free! even if they are pretty to look at. I talked myself out of buying many things in the store and would probably have made it out scot free if not for the Natsume Yuujinchou display. I couldn't resist buying a beautiful character pattern bag, a plastic folder and a cute cell phone charm.

Food wise, I once again had okonomiyaki on Weds evening. It was awesome because they cooked the cheese inside the okonomiyaki so it oozed out. I'm totally cooking okonomiyaki like that from now on. Yesterday, I had a bento from a chain restaurant which was disappointing so pizza chips were my only consolation. I watched Hansel and Gretel (I have a bunch of random movies on my comp which can be watched if I wish) which was surprisingly boring for a movie with so much fighting. Oh well.
