Today, I was teaching how to spell something that started with 'V' so I made a 'v' with my fingers and eventually the student figured it out (since v and b sound exactly the same to most Japanese people and/or they get taught it wrong in school), so then I was like, "Peace!", and she laughed and said in Japanese that I'm becoming more Japanese the longer I stay here. I'm certainly learning more of the language from that class since they speak in Japanese half the time. I don't think they notice how often I respond in English to what they say in Japanese *L* They're also trying to doom me by telling me where all the best cake/anko shops are. Evil;)
In other news, why didn't someone tell me that TWOP was doing Farscape? I've only managed to read through the first two eps since I have no time, but it's both brilliant and disappointing. The first ep recap was excellent even though I disagree that Crichton is an idiot (nor do I think he's as pretty as everyone makes out, but he's not as much to my taste so eh. Not so oddly enough, he becomes a lot more interesting to me when he starts wearing black leather all the time (and coincidently *cough*, goes insane)), but the second ep was kinda surreal to read because I'm widely of the opinion that that's the worst ep of the entire show being cliched, obvious and boring and yet one of my favourite eps of that season (which I haven't read yet) was marked with a really low grade. It's kinda obvious I and the reviewer are watching for entirely different reasons and from different backgrounds (cause Farscape was damn refreshing to me after so many years of Star Wars/Star Trek/B5 etc.). Still, I've been enjoying the read since it's a lovely way to review the show, even if the plot doesn't really start getting convoluted until third season.
I also managed to watch the new House and it wasn't all that great. Or rather, House was great. Realistic (except for the total physical recovery) and moving (I'm going to need a House plushie to squeeze if he gets more woobie), and while I don't like them going down the addiction route, I can deal with it. But - what is with the rest of the cast suddenly acting like assholes? They were once again doing that annoying thing of acting like they'd read the script and therefore knew all of House's psychological problems, or at least thought they did. Wilson was an asshole. Cuddy wasn't much better. Cameron, well, Cameron was pretty much herself only slightly more obnoxious and Foreman and Chase were just there. I really want to smack Wilson for not knowing that if you deny House one fix (his case solving) then he'll turn to another fix. Or maybe Wilson did know considering his need to help terminal people. I seriously hope the season gets better.
I forgot to say this, but thanks everyone for the advice on Diane Wynne Jones books. It depends on what I can get ahold of, but I'll try out a few of the different recs.
That doujinshi I mentioned translating on Sunday is here. It's for Kakashi Gaiden and is very cute. My translation's pretty basic. It's kinda hard to decide if you should leave it in the literal Japanese or change it to make a bit more sense in English but not exactly say what they're saying in Japanese.
Two more classes today and I skip kickboxing. Much as I'd like to go, the shoulder is still aching (as is the rest of me) and I really can't afford to run myself down any more than I am already.
