deralte: (champloo to walk (by me))

So, we were all invited through a friend of a friend thing to a barbecue yesterday. It turned out to be at this large farmhouse in the middle of nowhere where we paid 1500 yen, brought our own bowls and chopsticks and chowed down on huge amounts of good Japanese and Korean food. Lots of barbecued meat and veggies (the most beef I've eaten since I got here actually), and other Korean foods I have no idea of the name of. The house itself was really cool, very traditional and big. There was a large variety of people and lots of kids playing with stilts and in the local stream and rice fields. I had a great time talking to a number of people and relaxing with beer, good food and good company.

We had fun wading in the nearby stream and I got tons of great pics. Then, I went frog hunting (which wasn't so much a hunt as a frog retreat since they were everywhere) in the rice fields with the younger boys who once they found out I liked htem and enjoyed photographing them, kept bringing me them to see. It was great *g* I also got some truly fantastic pictures of the frogs, crickets and even a snake we found. It did rain on and off during the day, but that only led to some good mix up of people talking. One thing that did surprise me was they actually brought out a watermelon for the kids to hit with a stick while wearing a blindfold. It was a sort of, "Wow, they really do that" moment *L*

Later in the evening, we all wandered across to the stream to watch the fireflies, which were quite beautiful (though not the ridiculously special thing the J. seem to talk of with such reverence *L*). I will say they were suprisingly docile fireflies, as they often just hung out in your hand even if you really wanted to let them go (I recall the fireflies of my childhood were a lot more energetic). I was very amused by this one drunk guy who kept catching fireflies to give to me *L* There was something really relaxing about seeing fireflies resting on leaves and flying over the stream while you could hear the frogs in the rice field behind you.

So, and excellent day. I have no regrets.
