I watched Shawn of the Dead last night and really enjoyed it. This surprised me cause I tend to loathe zombie movies with a passion but I should have trusted anyone who made Hot Fuzz to make just as amusing a zombie movie. Other than that, I've mostly spent the weekend reading ST fanfic, watching ST:TOS and doing my homework.

Today, Borders sent out 40% off coupons which I can never resist so I went and picked up a historical/fantasy AU by S. M. Stirling. There were like a million to chose from though so I hoped I picked a decent one. Then I was lured by the fresh new copies of Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (sequel to The Hunger Games) to sit down in the cafe, buy a tasty sandwich, strawberry frozen drink thingy (so tasty) and a cookie and start reading. And, well, once I started reading I didn't really have any reason to stop, and the chair was comfy. So I stayed for four hours and read the whole thing. It was excellent. I loved the way the main character was developed and that there was still lots of gore.

Once I finished, I came home, made myself alfredo fettuccine for dinner with strawberries and whipped cream for desert then settled in to read more ST fic. It's been a nice weekend, though it sort of makes me tense up and wonder what else is going to go wrong in the next few weeks. I may be a bit paranoid about life at this point.

I haven't gotten any hours yet (and I assume if I fuck up in service training things would go badly) but other than those things, I pretty much have a lifeguarding job at Rutgers. I'll get hours at some point this week. I also signed up for a recreational course in belly dancing, which should be fun. I should still have time to write and apply for phds if I keep on top of everything, though my next few months are going to be very busy. So it goes.

I'm glad you liked Sean of the Dead. I thought it was actually quite a sweet film, despite the undead aspect.

My husband and I say, "dogs CAN look up" all the time and nobody knows what the hell we're talking about. I guess more people need to see this film.

I just realized I have a zombie dinosaur icon. how appropriate is that?

Yeah. Someone said 'fuckadoodledoo' to me recently and then grinned like I knew what it meant. And now, oddly enough, I do.

I think the part that really got me was when you saw the zombie in the wheelchair. I just burst out laughing.

You should do what I do which is enable as many people to watch the movie/tv show as possible so they all get my cultural references. I already talked my Dad into watching Shawn of the Dead a few hours ago;)

I've been curious about Shawn of the Dead. I loathe Zombie movies usually (they scare the hell out of me), and I haven't seen Hot Fuzz, but it looked intriguing...

Found any good ST fanfic? I've never really read any.

*drools at your dinner*

Hot Fuzz is awesome, and I completely recommend it. For Shawn of the Dead, I had to look up whether anyone survived before I watched it cause I hate zombie movies where no one survives (which are most of them). It starts off kinda slow, but really does have some pretty funny moments.

I've been reccing the best of the best over at [livejournal.com profile] ficrecs, but there is tons of stuff out there these days. Some of it's not even slash *L*

ps. Providing you've seen the new movie, try Lunch and Other Obscenities (http://rheanna27.livejournal.com/110953.html) first:)

You know one time, not so long ago, the anime soc was evicted from the lounge by the belly dancing society. I asked them why they didn't let boys join, mainly because double standards infuriate me, and they gave the, 'well for the religious restrictions on our Muslim girls.' excuse. I asked them if they'd run separate classes for men and they said only if there were enough of them.

They're so pampered, after all belly dancing isn't that sexual, well compared to a modern pop video. Now at warwick union they have a poll dancing soc, something our union banned, and there it's unisex.

also I was quite afraid that fan fic would be a spock / kirk. I now have the urge to scream "you masticator!" at some one.

That is rather sexist of them. I wonder if there'll be any men in my class this monday...

Heh. I'd have warned if it was Spock/Kirk. I'm pretty picky when it comes to het or slash recs though so about 2/3 of the stuff I rec is gen.

I just reread the fic and was amused to notice that Gaila's curse is, "Oh, chew it." *L*

Now that's authenticity for you, although I can't help wondering how she'd react when she heard about food sex lol.

Anyway in slash news you may not remember her but our blond curlly hair BL / yaoi fan girl (you know who I mean) has groped out of uni to becaome a teaching asistant. Frankly this makes me sad as I'll a miss her and b worry if she'll cope and if she's doing this for the right reasons. She was on the comitty this year, they're having an egm as we speak to replace her.

Well, considering she told Spock to take Uhura to lunch at the end of the fic, Gaila probably has a really dirty mind for an Orion;)

I vaguely remember her. I hope she does okay.
