Last night, I turned on my computer to discover my cd/dvd drive was simply not there. I attributed this to a variety of things, and spent hours trouble shooting until my mum suggested we switch my driver and hers (we both have the same laptop). Sure enough, it doesn't show up on hers, but her cd drive shows on mine, and incidently causes the computer to boot a hell of a lot faster. Luckily, I'm still under warranty so this shouldn't be too much trouble (other than annoyance) providing the new drive gets here before I go back to Scotland.

In other news, sensei jack wins this months funniest comment in a martial arts class for telling us last night that "bananas don't just get up and fight" as part of an extended metaphor. Have also discovered just how very out of practice I am with the bo, and it doesn't help that I dyslexically place my hands wrong all the time. Had just managed to get the hang of it by the end of class, but I really need to get ahold of a bo of my own, or at least a sanded down broomstick and practice on my own (Actually, any of you in Scotland who have an old wooden broomstick/mop handle etc that you would like to part with, I'd love to have it:)). See, bo is a kinda crazy weapon. You don't actually need to know much about how to use it to look pretty damn impressive holding one (nunchucks are similar). I've had people back away from me in fear doing the only major move I know how to do with one, and yet I know absolutely nothing. It's amusing and frustrating at the same time. Ah well.

Read Aleutian Sparrow last night which is a blank verse book about the Aleut evacuation during WWII. Very sweet, but more one of those books I'd recommend to someone who needed to read a book quickly for school, then to read for actual literature. I'm not sure if I liked that it wasn't an actual account either. The Life Eaters was one of those crazy graphic novels that postulated 'what if the Nazi's had won WWII by summoning the Norse gods back to life and feeding them on the blood of the holocaust and other sacrificial victims?' Not a bad book, and it dealt well with some heavy and interesting issues, not to mention the art was quite lovely if very, hmm, american. David Brin needs to be thumped a few times on the head with some history books for thinking everybody was confident the Allies were winning the war before D-day...

I'm going into the city tomorrow instead of today, since I had/have doctor's and hair appointments. Have been given permission to raid B&N, which one certainly doesn't get every day *eg*

Will go back to watching Tenshi Na Konamaiki now.
