Well, it's been a long couple of days, made longer by poor sleep (when I got to sleep) on my part. I'm actually at the local library atm so I can update since the internet at R.'s house is spotty.
Our drive through Pennsylvannia at 4am went well. Mostly because I bought a vanilla chai from dunkin donuts right when we left and since I don't have caffiene, it kept me awake until well past noon (even if I did have to take painkillers for the headaches caffiene always causes me). It's a good time of night/morning to drive. We hit Pittsburgh about a half hour past ten, and were led into the bar area of The Grand Concourse. I'd forgotten how pictoresque the interior is there, and I'd show you the pics I took but it'll have to wait until I have better internet access. The buffet itself was amazing. I started with banana foster and several other deserts, then moved on to the three different kinds of salmon, bacon, salad, fruit, chicken alfredo, lemon chicken, french toast and a cheese and mushroom omlette. My favourite thing I think was the donut making machine they had that made fresh donuts right in front of your eyes. They were so delicious. Dad was sad he was too stuffed to eat one.
After the buffet, we headed for Cincinatti with Dad driving since I was crashing from the lack of sleep. We forgot the effects of a food coma though so Dad and I both ended up conked out at a rest stop for an hour or two before we moved onwards. We had to wait a bit once we reached my cousin's house to eat since we weren't exactly hungry after the massive amount of food for brunch. Eventually we went to Olive Garden and I wish I'd been hungrier since their sausage and new muscat wine are delicious. I went to bed fairly early but didn't sleep until 11 and woke at 8. We went to a half price book store nearby as we left for Kentucky and it was great to cross a few of the books I've been looking for off my list for cheap prices.
In Kentucky, we headed first for the town of London to visit my cousin's mother. After a fun adventure where the GPS told us they lived in a cow pasture, we finally found their house and talked for a few hours (I mostly read my book). Then in the evening, we stopped at Cracker Barrel for a nice meal (having skipped that whole lunch thing), then headed to my brother R.'s house. Since it was so late when we got in, everyone was asleep except for R. and we stayed up for a bit longer before crashing.
Unfortunately, something around here seriously sets off my allergies even with allegra in my system, so I've had a post nasal drip two nights in a row which led to a nasty sore throat all yesterday, and coughing and interupted sleep on top of the sore throat today. Other than that, we've been leisurely hanging out. I finished my first book of the trip, The Man with the Golden Torc which kinda reads like a crossover between James Bond and Hellblazer only with less humour. I'm currently reading Tam Lin, and then will probably read Jack of Kinrowan (I'm reading through the fairytale series...).
We had some great homemade chili with spagetti and fritos last night for dinner and I've noted the recipe for future reference. Other than that, I'm not sure when we're leaving here to visit the rest of my family. I'm feeling kinda awful from the allergies so keeping up with my nieces and nephews here is taking most of my energy. So it goes.
