deralte: (tired... (by me))
([personal profile] deralte Jan. 28th, 2005 05:28 pm)
Just got back from meeting with dissertation supervisor. I've been told to start writing. The very thought makes me very tired.

Edit: And I just got a review that called my Doctor Who story well written and "Hemingwayesque". Is it wrong that I only feel half complimented?

::huggles about writing the dissertation, because nothing I'm thinking of at the moment would actually be helpful, unless hitting me for being unhelpful would, in fact, be helpful...::

Someone compared you to Hemingway? As in Ernest Hemingway? I'd feel insulted, I think... Although I'm confused as to how your writing could be compared to Hemingway. He's got a bland way of writing that leaves no room for interest in anything, and no sense of plot in what bits of him I've read. The only thing that I can think is that they're referring to your use of understatement (I love the British sense of understatement, especially in Doctor Who...)

In any case, I'd be interested to see if you can guess which icon is mine in saiyuki_awards this week. I rather like it, and it's probably the best I've done so far... Which somehow reminds me, when is that trip you're taking? (The one to the city with all the museums...) And are you still calling me on Sunday? At the moment, I have off, but God only knows if they'll call me in. (They have for three weeks in a row...)

Oh, and an odd result from a game of Exquisite Corpse we played in Poetry: A chartreuse archeologist incarcerated a small book. I thought you may be amused by that - when they read it aloud in class the first thing I thought of was a chibi version of you from that dream you told me about...

When you want a break from writing your dissertation, I've got a pile of books for you :D

I wouldn't be flattered at being compared to Hemingway either.

It could only be compared to Hemingway if it is used by educational institutes to torture students.

At some point you have to say to yourself, "ENOUGH!!," stop reading and start writing.

Welcome to my world.
