deralte: (doctor who (by me))

Just watched the Dr. Who movie. Perhaps it's because I've heard so often how bad the movie is, but it really didn't seem as dire as it's always made out to be. McGann was an excellent and interesting Doctor. The plot was crappy and predictable, but it's not like I haven't seen that before on Dr. Who... The snogging sort of fit, honestly. (I think I used up all my shock about the Doctor going through puberty on the 9th Doctor.)

There were, of course, elements that were really cliched and annoying (the companions coming back to life, the random motorcycle chase, the overly long waking from the dead and wandering through the hospital scene etc.) The jellybabies were gratuitous too, which is a pity. It had some good lines. I kept thinking of the Master as Voldemort *L* The half human thing was kinda weird, but I just took it with a grain of salt. Actually, the whole movie watched better if you pretended it was an AU, or a What if? Not much more to say about it really.

Actually, I wouldn't have minded the movie at all if it had been treated like the Dr. Who movies of the past - namely the pair starring Grand Moff Tarkin - but to have a whole regeneration used on a single movie (and not a particularly good one, at that) seems kind of... yeah.

I'm so negative, aren't I?

Ah well, it is a shame that there wasn't a series to go with it. McGann deserved a couple seasons and not just an hour and a half (books and radio shows aren't the same), but, hell, I'd have happily watched Tom Baker as the Doctor forever too. All good things end, as do all of the Doctor's incarnations, much the pity. Atm, I think I'm more peeved that Ecclestone is bowing out after 13 eps. Talk about a waste of a good incarnation.

He is? Bastard. There's only four doctors left, after him.
