Silver and Gold Ch. 6, Naruto ch. 284-286

Chapter 6 of Silver and Gold is up. This is a very flirty chapter. I blame it on Jiraiya.


Is Ino really wearing fishnet underwear? (Even if this is an improvement over bandages...)

Sai really is annoying, but there's no point in judging anyone in Naruto until you've heard their angsty backstory (and he's obviously working up to a big reveal here). Pity we can't tell Naruto and Sakura that.

I kept wanting to tell Naruto not to encourage the slashers in these chapters. His obsession with whether Sai was as good looking as Sasuke really didn't do him any favours. Of course, Sai did check him out in the bath... And now I'm picturing Sai as Kaoru from Eva. There's a mental image I won't be able to shake for awhile...

I can tell I've been in fandom too long because my first thought on seeing Yamato was, "Well, here's someone they can slash Kakashi with." He called Kakashi senpai, but that just means Kakashi was in ANBU before him. I'm glad we've finally got another tree jutsu user, though I think he needs a bit more personality... or something. Interesting that he's got the same "soft-hearted" ideals about teamwork. One wonders why they even bother with that rule about the mission before the team in Konoha...

Root? Is boring. What the hell is with a village letting a few killers form their own little assasination group that's independent of the rest of the village anyway?

I'm glad Tsunade didnt' let the village elders walk all over her, though really, I'm surprised they have so much power as it is. What part of "ninja's can kill you and make you disappear" do they not understand? Hell, Orochimaru got away with it for ages. Naruto's going to have to do something pretty damn big for them to ever let him be Hokage, no matter how skilled he's become.

Interesting that Naruto picked up the habit of peeping from Jiraiya. And yet he thought Jiraiya's book was boring - or maybe he just said that to annoy Jiraiya, or show how grown up he was... Or, you know, Jiraiya writes boring porn... or there's too much romance in the book. Wonder which it is (Yes, this interests me more than the current obliquely search for Sasuke plot.)

*cracks up* I really have to get back to reading the manga -- I've been letting it slide since about chapter 270, and it sounds like actual stuff has happened. I mean, new characters, new village, slashy subtext? Hmmm...

Yeah, it actually feels like they're starting up a new plot now instead of an extended, "Let's reintroduce the characters." scene. Ino was the last of the old genin we needed to see again. And my only complaint about the new plot was the obvious sidelining of Kakashi so they could do it. Poor guy. It reminds me of how in One Piece, Luffy is always being sidelined at the beginning of fights for the weirdest reasons, just so everyone else can fight. Of course, since Kakashi isn't the main character, he also doesn't get a chance to fight at the end (Unless masked guy really is Obito... and that's a whole other can of worms.) I'd rather have him sidelined than dead though (since that is the fate of all good teachers when their students grow up in fiction - luckily, Kakashi isn't all that good a teacher *L*).
