Guess I should spoiler cut this, huh? I think G. got the short end of the stick since she went in seeing it not knowing that it was the second movie of a trilogy while I went in kinda expecting things to be up in the air, though not quite as up in the air as they actually ended up being... It was definately creepier than the last one, though not as entertaining or funny. Funny enough though.
The plot watched kinda like three different people wrote it and every time they thought they were finished one of them would pipe up and say, "hey wouldn't it be cool if..." and the others would go. "Why not? We've got a better special effects budget than God." I mean, that pointless (and desperately confusing) dicing scene? And for that matter, the fact that the plot was so confusing they had to have the characters keep repeating it in quick recaps in the hopes that the kiddies are following.
And yet it's still pretty obvious what's going to happen in the third movie... Why hello heart-shaped music box!
Depp was excellent as usual. I see they continued the theme of Elizabeth and Jack being kindred spirits and Will got to meet his Daddy for what it was worth. The cannibals were both fun and stupid, and honestly, human bone isn't that strong and doesn't make a good building material in any sort of humid enviroment.
It was kinda weird that Port Royal looked more like the historical Port Royal than it did before yet the movie was full of more anachronisms than before. Nice special effects at least. I like how they applied their imaginations on Davy Jone's crew members, and it was kinda interesting how they chose to do most of it during the daylight.
Blowing up undead monkeys would be excellent stress relief. Oh, and I really like the way the compass works actually. I like how multicultural, if highly stereotypical, the movie ended up being too.
I liked the irony of Jack's entrance considering his exit from the movie. And I'm suddenly picturing him having a grand ole chat with Death (Discworld or Sandman, take your pick) as he waits for the third movie to be released. Incidently, was kinda distracted and fascinated during that part by the Japanese woman next to me gasping in horror and crying for Jack.
That fight scene on the island sucked. *pouts* They need to remember the Mask of Zorro fight rule - If you do something over the top you can only do it for a short amount of time before the audience's common sense kicks in and they get bored.
Can't say much on Norrington yet, more's the pity. And yay, Barbossa!

I would link you to mine, but it's mainly incoherent squeeing on how much I enjoyed it. :p
Lizzie had to clap a hand over my mouth at the end though, because the cliffhanger made me (literally) sit bolt-upright and shriek "NO!!!1" at the top of my voice. ^^;;

Mmm, Norrington. See, I really loved that he was in it and that he played the character that way.
And I second the YAY on Barbossa! Yay Geoffrey Rush!

Oh, I liked Norrington. Had no problem with it really, it's just that he's in the "middle" of his performance so to speak so it's kinda hard to say anything about him.
