I am now so deeply obsessed with Rurouni Kenshin that it will be awhile before I come up with air. This is extremely frustrating since I need to be concentrating on my essays and work for the next two weeks, but every time I try to study my mind wanders off to Japan in the late 1800's.
So, what specificially am I obsessing about within Kenshin atm?
1) Why is nearly every good RK fanfic abandoned (most since 2002, and many from before)? It's quite strange and highly annoying.
2) Why is Kaoru so annoying in the Kyoto arc? I find my problem with her hard to articulate, but basically she seemed to go from heroine to damsel and it's bloody annoying.
3) Why aren't there more alternate ships in RK fanfics? Kenshin/Kaoru is quite boring. Will have to resort to slash at this rate.
4) I can't decide which of the cute guys in the series I like more. Not really a problem, I know, but it is distracting. *L*
5) Saitou is consistently winning the most practical person in the series award, in my book. Keshin's not killing anybody doesn't really bother me, he's free todelude himself do what he wants, but I suppose it's the whole attitude that the Meiji era is somehow different and better than the one before it that is really getting to me. The idealism is sickening and the historian within me is snickering uncontrollably.
6) Having read translations of the revenge arc, why in the world didn't they make it a bit more clear in the first OVA that Kenshin was really married? I can't be the only one who was hopelessly confused.
7) Someone needs to get Enishi in for a session with Freud.
8) Damn are the shinsengumi cool and tragic. Urge to write a historical novel about them is growing.
9) It's quite interesting that Kenshin nearly always sheathes his sword before attacking. Speaking as someone who is quite short and knows how to use a katana, drawing the sword is one of the hardest things in the world. When you're tall, you just have to use your arm and leg length to draw it, when you're shorter, you need to use your entire body, hence the way it looks like Kenshin's nearly twisting around sideways/backwards sometimes before he draws. Is it part of Mitsurrugi Ryu? I can't remember if Hiko did it as well...
10) What is it with author's who write wonderful revelations of the character's past, then don't follow up with the other character's reactions to said past? Kenshin reveals the entire first OVA, and then, bam, they all go to bed?! Argh...
11) Hiko and Kenshin's relationship is amusing.
Hmm, I think that's everything for now. Perhaps talking about it here will get it off my mind for awhile.
