Well, my cold went from bad to worse and the bug bites became extremely horrible and itchy so yesterday, I caught hte train to Verona, checked into the lovely hotel my father booked for me (no hostel! yes!) and went to the hospital. The people there were very helpful, though hardly anyone spoke too much english so a lot of my visit involved searching through my italian phrasebook and miming my symptoms out to people, though I guess it's rather amusing that I reverted to speaking French to them in the hopes that I hit a similar word and they would understand. So the first hospital didn't have the specialists needed for my case (yes, I was that ill...) so they sent me across the city to another hospital to hunt up the dermatoligist before it closed. Of course, they were crap at giving me directions to find it in this huge hospital complex so was lost for at least an hour, getting more and more desperate and feeling sublimely horrible. Finally found it, but it was closed, which meant I had to suffer through another night of itching. Know the entire hospital complex at this point at least, even where the maternity ward is. Then I had to find another building, and another section to get my cold treated. They checked me over thoroughly (discovered I had a fever, just hadn't noticed I did...) took my blood, then left me to wait while they processed it. That took about 2 hours, during which I tried not to go mad, and was fed warm milk and biscuits. Went back to lovely hotel and tried to relax. Glad I have tv to watch when the itching wakes me up and cold was slightly better due to antibotics.
Today, woke up and went back to the hospital to see the dermatologist. He confirmed my suspicions that I had been serverly been bitten by the little bugs I found in my bed the night before at the hostel (the little buggers that seemed not to care I was wearing bug spray... it really was a case of the bed bugs biting). I have medicine for it now, but still feel itchy. Went to one of Verona's art musuems for the rest of hte morning. Nice stuff, though nothing particuarly stunning. Then ate a quick lunch and wandered through the old part of the city which is really quite nice. Soon will be going back to my hotel for a nap. Have decided to skip Venice at this point and rest up and get better here in Verona since I'm still quite ill.
Ja ne!
