I'm really happy atm, mostly because I just finished watching eps 19-21 of One Piece which is one of those series I really enjoy watching, but had convinced myself I didn't so I wouldn't feel too bad about not watching the series. Will watch more tomorrow I think, and maybe finish writing my resume, and maybe work on Japanese. Who knows? Am sort of just taking the week as it goes since I'm not in the mood for anything structured and stuff.

A number of people tell me I suddenly have a tan. How this is possible when I have spent 99.9% of my time inside studying is beyond me. I was out to the library once or twice, and I took a walk for five minutes in the shade once. Sure, I did collapse on the Meadows for a half hour or so on Sat. but I was facing away from the sun and spent most of that half hour dozing with my head in my arms... That must be it though, I guess. How weird.

Anime night tonight was a bit of a disappointment disregarding the good company:) We watched the first two eps of Trinity Blood which didn't have single redeeming feature other than some nice looking bishonnen. The rest of it was blatantly ripped off from a number of animes and boring to boot, though decent enough to make fun of. The next Hellsing it ain't. The less said about Moonphase the better, though at least there was a hot bishonnen magician to balance out the annoying main character and catgirl/vampire... Yeah, it was that bad. They didn't manage to show the last series we were supposed to watch so [livejournal.com profile] lucyjin and I retreated to my flat for fangirling many things and watching some One Piece. I use this smiley on behalf of her:D *L*

Yesterday, I watched Kagemusha. I should probably have checked the run time before I put it in since it was about three hours and the subtitles really did start to kill my eyes after awhile. Luckily, I understood a lot of the simple sentence Japanese so at least I didn't have to strain too hard. It was a really interesting film with some moments of pure brilliance and some gorgeous cinematography. There were times when I thought Kurosawa either missed the point he was trying to make, or didn't make it clear enough for the audience, or at least for a western audience. As a history buff, I certainly appreciated seeing some famous names. *pets Ieyasu* and thought there were many strong performances by the actors. It ended the way I expected it to (not hard to figure if you know the slightest bit about Japanese history...), though I feel sorry that Kurosawa didn't have the special effects that are available today. Blood done by what is essentially red paint doesn't cut it anymore and ruins the realism that I'm sure he was going for. Oddly enough, they had an excellent horse trainer and riders for the movie, which served them very well in the final scenes.
