deralte: (roma (by me))

Well, I just finished Rome. Though actually episode 11 thrilled me more. That gladitorial scene was beautiful. I had my mouth open gaping through most of it. The tension was thrilling and you really wondered what everyone was going to do. Would Vorenus break and help? And then when he did, there was this glorious gratuitous carnage. Very Roman that. *L* It was an interesting contrast too. Octavian acts through an intermediary and fails and doesn't do much else. Vorenus holds out until the end then gives in and helps his friend no matter the cost. I'll be interested to see Octavian grow in the next season.

I had a suspicion Vorenus would end up in the Senate before the end of the series. It's good to know my instincts are right. The death of his wife was heartbreaking though the cynical side of me says this leaves him open for interesting seductions in the next season. Pullo comes off well at the end of this season but I doubt that will last long on this show.

I loved seeing Caesar's policies since it was such a strange mix to our modern minds of tyrany and reformation. Oh, and how much love to see the fertility rite blessing the earth? And the use of graffiti throughout the show has been wonderful. I loved that comment at some point about how the street writers know all. The City knows even when the people involved don't. Other than that, I actually thought the scene with Caesar trying to convince Brutus to leave was excellently done. Caesar is acting prudently, but that's not what Brutus wants.

Oh, and thank god they finally mentioned the piss pots. I love that little tidbit of Roman history, and shame on any historical Roman book/show that doesn't put that in;)

Pullo, Marc Antony, and Octavia have grown up the most in this series. It'll be interesting to see where this goes (besides what I know of history *whistles innocently*).

Lovely stuff. Can I have some more please?
