Ssshhh! Don't tell anyone, but there's a unsecure internet connection somewhere around my apartment. This means I will probably manage to be online regularly until my actual internet connection is set up. *crosses fingers* *hopes luck holds*
This week has been good. It's now Sunday, my day of rest, and also the first day I've managed to sleep past 7am since I got here. This is probably the result of a drunken goodbye party for R., the woman I'm replacing, that I attended last night. There's actually several English schools around here so I met a lot of their teachers as well while munching on many random things (dried squid, cheese, octopus, ze list goes on). I continue to be surprised by how much conversational Japanese I understand. Anime has served me surprisingly well, though I'm kinda disturbed by how much of my vocabulary seems to have come from Naruto... This actually is both a help and a hinderance to me since I have to restrain myself from responding to the Japanese in my classes and wait for the English. C'est la vie. (Incidently, I might end up teaching some basic French while I'm here. How weird would that be?)
My apartment is lovely. I apparently have the biggest of the teachers, though I wouldn't have noticed something smaller anyway since my room in Edinburgh was just large enough for a bed and a desk while still leaving room to open the door. Anyway, my apartment is considered one room, but it's actually three separated by sliding doors. The first room when you enter is the kitchen and bathrooms - the toilet is separate from the shower/bath. The shower/bath is Japanese style so there's a deep, small (by other standards) tub, then the floor is used for the rest of the bath etc. Of course, I'm just using it as a regular shower since I can't be bothered and my only complaint about it is that it's on the other side of the flat from the heater which means I'm going to freeze come winter. The second room, has my bed, shwelves, personal objects and a deep, big closet (there's actually tons of storage space). The third room is a sort of living room with tatami on the floor (five if you want to know the size), a desk, a futon/couch, and entertainment centre. I bought all the former teacher's furniture (as she did before her, etc.) so I already have a tv, vcr and dvd player all set up amongst numerous other things. Hell, other than food, the only things I've had to buy so far as a box of tissues. I'll post pics once I download them off my camera since the decorations are quite colourful as they are, though I can't wait to add more anime related stuff *L*
The first class I teach on my own is on Wendsday so I have some prep to do reading through files and planning etc. It's not really all that hard imo, you just have to get over your nerves at first. That, and I feel really silly singing kids songs when I have kids classes.
